Dear 7th and 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,
Conferences are just around corner, and we are excited to announce that on Thursday, April 6th and Thursday, April 13th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, our middle school will be doing things a bit differently. Rather than scheduling a conference time with your child’s homeroom teacher, you will be attending a conference run by your own student! Student-led conferences are a great way to help middle school students take ownership and initiative in their learning. With the help of their teachers, students will be evaluating their performance in each class as well as assessing their strengths and weaknesses in order to set individual learning goals.
As middle school educators, we believe that student-led conferences are the best way for you to understand your student’s academic interests, struggles, gains, and goals. We also love that they allow students to practice key skills such as self-reflection, adjustment, and communication as students take ownership of their unique learning processes. While we acknowledge that this is a big shift in what we at Walworth are used to, we truly believe that making conferences student-driven will bring worthwhile, positive change.
We are excited to see these conferences in action, and, of course, all of your child’s teachers will be readily available to address any questions or concerns you may have during your student-led conference. If you have multiple children at Walworth, simply stop by the library before, after, or in between your other conferences. Everyone is welcome, and the time is flexible -- just make sure your middle schooler is with you!
We really hope to see you there. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us for any reason. We would love to hear from you!
Best,
The 7th and 8th Grade Team
